Signal 10 House Fire - The Knolls
Submitted by Jeff Baker on April 27, 2009 - 15:12At 2:08 AM on Wednesday, April 22, the Locust Valley Volunteer Fire Department was alerted to a report of smoke coming from the rear of a building on The Knolls in Locust Valley. A second call indicated that the rear of #2 The Knolls was fully engulfed with flames. Upon arrival of Chief Jeffrey Baker, a signal 10 (the signal used to confirm a working house fire) was transmitted for a 2 & 1/2 story private dwelling (unoccupied) with heavy fire in the rear. 3rd Generation FF Enters the Department
Submitted by Jeff Baker on April 21, 2009 - 14:57On the evening of April 20, 2009 the Locust Valley Fire Department welcomed into its ranks another 3rd generation firefighter, Arthur Sandstrom III into Chemical Co. 1. Artie follows in the footsteps of his father, Arthur Jr., a current member of Chemical Company and his grandfather, Arthur Sr., who was also a member of the Chemical Company for many years.
3 LVFD Members Honored at Law & Order Night
Submitted by Jeff Baker on April 21, 2009 - 13:09The Locust Valley American Legion held their annual Law & Order night on April 20 to honor not only their own members for their years of service to the organization, but also to honor local firefighters and police officers for their heroism and community service. The Locust Valley Fire Department had the distinction of recognizing 3 of our members at this event. One for his dedicated service to not only the fire department, but also the community of Locust Valley and the other two, for their joint effort in saving the victim of a serious auto accident. Department Drill - 102 Horseshoe Road
Submitted by Jeff Baker on April 21, 2009 - 12:54On Sunday April 19th, the Locust Valley Fire Department hosted a drill on a house slated for demolition in Mill Neck. Locust Valley responded with Chiefs 5400, 5401, 5402, & 5403 along with Ambulance 541, Engines 544 & 545, and Tower Ladder 546. Bayville Fire Co. responded with Chief 507 and Engine 503 the FAST. Atlantic Steamer responded with Chiefs 5501 & 5503 along with Engine 557 as the additional engine company. Read more
Busy Night for LVFD

Baker on April 14, 2009 - 15:39On Monday, April 13th at approximately 8:02pm, a little over an hour after the newly elected chiefs were sworn into office, the LVFD was toned out for an Oven Fire at 10 Midway Ave. All four chiefs responded to the scene quickly from the fire house followed closely by E-544. Upon entering the kitchen of the home the engine crew found a smoke condition with smoke coming from the oven. It turns out that the homeowner had turned the oven to self-clean forgetting about the oven mitts still inside. Read more
New LVFD Chiefs Take Office
Submitted by Brian Nolan on April 14, 2009 - 01:12At 7:00 pm on Monday, April 13, Jeffrey E. Baker was sworn in as the Department's 52nd Chief of Department. Along side Chief Baker was 1st Assistant Chief Dominick Scaperotta, 2nd Assistant Chief Brian T. Nolan and 3rd Assistant Chief Peter D. Greenfield.
The Chiefs' were sworn in by Commissioner and Ex-Chief Joseph Peirano in the Board Room. Commissioners' Harrison, Eliseo and Banker were also present. Read more
FAST Team to Glen Cove Sig. 10
