LVFD Holds Car Fire Drill

On Sunday, August 30th, members of the LVFD convened at the TOB Highway yard on Elm Street to conduct a car fire drill. Assistant Chief Nolan, Chief of Training, coordinated the training session with the Department's training committee. Two vehicles were obtained from local resident donations and were utilized for this training session. E545 was set-up as the attack engine company, while E543 was positioned at a hydrant on Elm St to provide an additional water source. 2nd Annual Pig Roast

On Saturday, August 29th, the Recruitment & Retention Committee held their 2nd Annual Pig Roast for the LVFD membership. The Chairman of the Recruitment & Retention Committee, Capt. Andrew Akapnitis, with assistance from FF Paul Marecki, started the day early at 9am prepping the food and getting the charcoal set for the roast. Read more

Forcible Entry Training With Firehouse Innovations

On Thursday, August 27th the members of the LVFD were treated to a special training session with Mike Perrone from Firehouse Innovations. Mike is the founder and creator of the Multi-Force Forcible Entry Door System and a 28-yr member of the FDNY. Read more

Drill at Grenville Baker Boys & Girls Club

The Grenville Baker Boys & Girls Club opened their doors to the Locust Valley Fire Department for a valuable training session on Wednesday, August 25th. A crew of firefighters brought E543 and TL546 up to the Club on Forest Avenue and focused on search and rescue in commercial buildings. Assistant Chief Nolan reviewed the use of full PPE on all calls and also went over the donning of the SCBA for our newer members. The training session concluded with a walk-thru of the entire building which allowed members to see all the hidden spaces in this large commercial occupancy. Read more

MVA at Duck Pond Rd and Piping Rock Rd

AT 11:13 PM the LVFD was alerted to the scene of a Motor Vehicle Accident at the intersection of Duck Pond Road and Piping Rock Road. Two patients were transported to Glen Cove Hospital by Locust Valley Ambulance 541. Heavy Rescue 542 arrived to secure the two vehicles and clean-up some spilled fuel in the roadway. A telephone pole with electrical lines was hit by the vehicle and subsequently caused the wires and transformer to hang at a dangerously low level. Working Fire - Car and Building on Forest Avenue

After working a Sig. 9 for a female fell at the exact same location 30 minutes earlier, a fierce storm that came through the North Shore at approximately 5:00pm caused a lightening strike to a telephone pole at 435 Forest Avenue which hit a primary line. The primary line then came down on top of a pick up truck that was in the street. The truck caught fire and then extended to the building. Units were delayed in attacking the fire while they waiting for LIPA to shut down power. Read more

LVFD Goes Mutual Aid to East Norwich

The East Norwich Fire Co was originally dispatched by FireComm to a wires burning call at 1075 Wolver Hollow Rd. 512 went 21 with 5101 and just before arrival FC notified 5101 of a call for a house fire IVO Friendly Rd on Wolver Hollow. 5101 and E-512 smelled burning and were attempting to locate the source. 5102 went up the original callers driveway which parallels the fire scenes driveway and called for the 32 for a 10. LVFD Marches in NYS Parade

On Sunday, August 16th the Hicksville Fire Department hosted the Annual New York State Firefighters Parade. It's a rare occasion that the NYS Parade is held on Long Island, so the members of the LVFD voted to attend this year. Approximately 16 members along with 3 vehicles went to Hicksville on a hot and humid Sunday afternoon. Marching from the 3rd Division, Locust Valley, led by Chief Baker and Asst. Chief Greenfield, did not place for a trophy, but a good time was had by all.
