Not Your Ordinary Carbon Monoxide Alarm
Submitted by Jeff Baker on March 1, 2010 - 13:21Locust Valley Fire Department's dispatcher received a call at approximately 4:30pm for a carbon monoxide (CO) alarm sounding at a residence on Feeks Lane. Assistant Chief's Scaperotta (5401) and Greenfield (5403)were first to arrive on scene. They were met by workers who were painting at the main house on the property and weren't aware of an alarm sounding. After a quick check of the main house, it was suggested by the workers that the Chief's check the cottage at the rear of the property where additional work was being done. Read more
LVFD Makes Nice Stop on Soundview Place
Submitted by Jeff Baker on February 23, 2010 - 16:33At approximately 17:39 hours the LVFD Dispatcher received a 911 call, via FireCom, from a homeowner reporting a house fire. Chief Baker (5400) responded in first and was confronted with a 2 1/2 story private dwelling under renovation with fire in the walls. Read more
LVFD Launches New Fire Police Squad

This new unit was established to provide support during various firematic operations and non-firematic events. Some of their duties include: Traffic Control, Establishing Scene Safety Zones, Crowd Control, Protecting Emergency Workers and Bystanders, Securing Incident Scenes, and Providing Incident Support. Mutual Aid to Glen Cove FD
Submitted by Jeff Baker on February 8, 2010 - 16:38At approximately 5:45am the LVFD was dispatched to assist Glen Cove with a working fire on Bowne Street. Glen Cove Command requested units from Sea Cliff and Locust Valley to assist at the scene of a fire in a 2 story private dwelling. Read more
Mutual Aid to Bayville
Submitted by Jeff Baker on February 6, 2010 - 16:31At 9:40 pm on a cold and windy Saturday night, the LVFD was dispatched to assist the Bayville Fire Company with a fire in a 2-story private dwelling on June Avenue. FIRECOM requested Locust Valley provide 1 ambulance to the scene and 1 engine to standby at Bayville headquarters in case of additional alarms in their district. Read more
MVA with Door Pop and Dash Lift
Submitted by Jeff Baker on January 21, 2010 - 22:49A quiet Thursday evening came alive a little after 10pm when the LVFD was alerted for an auto accident at the intersection of Oyster Bay Road and Dogwood Lane. Chief Baker (5400) was on the road first and was alerted by OBPD that the accident was located further down Dogwood Lane. OBPD was on scene requesting a forthwith response for the Hurst tool. Firefighters Respond to First Working Fire of 2010

What initially was thought to be a possible oil burner emergency quickly escalated upon the arrival of Assistant Chief Scaperotta (5401). Read more
LVFD Delivers Gifts To Wounded Warriors
Submitted by Jeff Baker on December 29, 2009 - 12:58On Thursday evening Dec. 3rd a small contingent of Locust Valley firefighters received a blessing from Deacon Ted Kolakowski as they then proceeded to Floral Park to pick up the last of the two 26 ft. U-Haul trucks, both donated vehicles having been previously loaded with multiple boxes of food, clothing, gifts, cards and good wishes from the hearts of the people throughout Nassau County. LVFD Participates in Hope For Warriors Run
Submitted by Jeff Baker on November 19, 2009 - 15:42On Sunday, November 8th members of the LVFD awoke early and traveled out to Babylon to participate in the Hope For Warriors Run (H4W). There was a 10k, 5k, and 1 mile run/walk to raise money and awareness for the H4W organization. A few more adventurous members undertook the 1 mile run in full turnout gear, which equates to carrying close to an additional 50 lbs of weight. Read more
LVFD Continues Fire Prevention Work
Submitted by Jeff Baker on November 5, 2009 - 12:15On Wednesday, November 4th as election results were being tallied, the Locust Valley Fire Department concluded its Fire Prevention duties by visiting the Locust Valley Church and Mill Neck Manor schools. Lieutenant Greg Smith, Ex-Captain Jim Neumeyer and Firefighter Matt Stimola brought Tower Ladder 546 to both schools to educate the children on fire safety and even gave them a bit of homework.
