LVFD HAS A BUSY WEEKEND

An intense storm ravaged Long Island Saturday March 13th and Sunday March 14th wreaking havoc in the Locust Valley Fire District. The fire department responded to 21 calls for assistance this weekend, with many calls being attributed to the storm. 12 calls for power lines down, 2 hazardous materials calls, 2 carbon monoxide calls, 2 automatic fire alarm calls, 2 ambulance rescue calls and a car fire were responded to by Locust Valley's Bravest.

LVFD also assisted in many instances by using chain saws to clear trees from roadways in order to keep them clear for passing traffic. Read more

LVFD Asks Residents to Clear Hydrants

To members of the Locust Valley Fire Department, a fire hydrant is one of their most important pieces to the puzzle when it comes to a serious fire. Please understand that time is of the essence, and time spent clearing a hydrant during an emergency is time lost getting water to a fire. During these heavy snowfalls, the Locust Valley Fire Department asks our residents to clear your fire hydrants when clearing your walks. This work no doubt can make a difference when the need for water is critical. We also remind our residents that clearing snow can be exhaustive and taxing on the human body. Read more

New Carbon Monoxide Law

Effective February 22, 2010, a new New York State Law known as Amanda's Law will take effect mandating the presence of Carbon Monoxide detectors in every home. The law was named after Amanda Hansen, a teenager whose life was tragically ended by a carbon monoxide leak from a defective boiler while she was sleeping at a friend's house in January 2009. LVFD Busy Night & Mutual Aid Signal 10

At approximately 9 PM, the Locust Valley Fire Department was notified for Mutual Aid to Bayville Fire Company for a Signal 9 (Ambulance Call) to Cliff Drive for an unconscious male. While operating in Bayville, a second call was received for a Signal 9 at The Tides Motel for a young child with burns. As DC 5401 & DC 5402 arrived on scene, a third Signal 9 was received for a dizzy female at The Brass Rail Restaurant on Forest Avenue. Read more

New LVFD Chiefs Take Office

At 7:00 pm on Monday, April 13, Jeffrey E. Baker was sworn in as the Department's 52nd Chief of Department. Along side Chief Baker was 1st Assistant Chief Dominick Scaperotta, 2nd Assistant Chief Brian T. Nolan and 3rd Assistant Chief Peter D. Greenfield.

The Chiefs' were sworn in by Commissioner and Ex-Chief Joseph Peirano in the Board Room. Commissioners' Harrison, Eliseo and Banker were also present. Read more

LVFD Responds to Working Fire

During the early morning hours of July 10, the Locust Valley FD was alerted to wires burning across from 58 Ryefield Road in Lattingtown. While enroute to the firehouse, Ex-Captain J. Converse discovered a house completely engulfed in flames. He quickly phoned the dispatcher and instructed him to tone out a signal 10 for a working fire. DC 5403 (Nolan) instructed the dispatcher to sound the whistles indicating a signal 10 and notify Bayville for a Firefighter Assist and Search Team (FAST.) Read more

LVFD Responds to Serious Auto Accident

On Thursday December 13 at approximately 12:30 pm a serious auto accident involving two vehicles were reported on Bayville Road and Meleny Road. LVFD Firefighter Thomas Winslow, traveling behind one of the automobiles involved, was first on scene. Tom quickly assessed the two drivers involved and discovered one driver, a 17 year old student, unconscious and was not breathing. He immediately provided in-line stabilization of her neck and spine which improved her airway. He was assisted by firefighter John Dembowski as she was transported to NUMC by Nassau County Police Ambulance. Read more

LVFD responds to Car on the Tracks

On the evening of December 2, the evening after our first snowfall, the Locust Valley Fire Department Dispatcher received a direct call from a resident reporting a car on the Long Island Railroad tracks. Upon arrival of Chief Vissichelli (5400) and DC Nolan (5403) a car was found trapped on the railroad tracks on Kaintuck Lane near Beaver Dam Winter Sports Club. Immediately, Chief Vissichelli issued a stop order on East and West bound traffic on the tracks. DC Nolan spoke to the driver of the automobile, Rita Ingrasa of Glen Cove, to ascertain if she had any injuries. Read more

LVFD Responds to Bus Accident

On Thursday, November 8 at approximately 5:30 PM, Locust Valley FD was notified by Nassau County 911 to respond to a report of a Motor Vehicle Accident, school bus involved, with fire, and a possible ejection at the intersection of Piping Rock Road and Frost Pond Road. Upon arrival of DC Nolan (5403) a downed primary wire was found burning in close proximity to the scene. After surveying the scene, a total of seven aided were presented, three of whom had serious possible injuries. Due to the location of the incident, Glenwood FC had been notified to respond.
