Fatal Auto Accident on Old Tappen Road

On January 10, 2011 at around 7:30am, the Locust Valley Fire Department was toned out for a motor vehicle accident in front of 80 Old Tappen Road in Lattingtown. En route, Ambulance 541 was notified that it was a head on collision without a pin, with one victim with serious injuries. Four NCPD officers were on scene along with one GCPD officer. The accident involved one SUV with two male occupants and a smaller car with one female occupant. NCPD officers radioed for the NCPD helicopter to air lift the female victim. LVFD Engine Responds Mutual Aid to Bayville Fire

Christmas Eve 2010 was an eventful one for the members of the Locust Valley Fire Department. Around 11:00pm the Locust Valley Fire Department was toned out for a request for an engine to respond to standby at Bayville Fire Company HQ while the BFC was fighting a basement fire across the street from HQ on Quincy Avenue. Engine 543 responded under the command of Capt. Akapnitis, as well as Chief's Baker (5400) and Nolan (5402). Engine 545's crew stood fast at BFC for only a short time before being called in to assist at the fire on Quincy Ave. Read more

LVFD Responds to Oyster Bay Cove Fire

At 6:00am Tuesday September 14th, the Locust Valley Fire Department was toned out for an engine to respond mutual aid to stand by at Oyster Bay Fire Co. #1's Headquarters, while Oyster Bay was fighting a Signal 10 - Working Fire in Oyster Bay Cove. Engine 544, led by Lt. Charles Savinetti, responded and was redirected to the scene on Sunken Orchard Road. The fire was a two story private dwelling. LVFD units were assigned to relieve Syosset Fire Department (who left to respond to their own working fire)to extinguish the last remaining pockets of fire and perform overhaul. Read more

LVFD Responds as F.A.S.T. Team to Glen Cove Signal 10

On November 22nd around 2:25pm, Glen Cove Fire Dispatch signed on the air with a general alarm report of a smoke coming from the building at 11 Westland Drive. The first unit to arrive on Morgan Island was 5201 who transmitted a Signal 10 before he reached the residence due to the large column of black smoke rising into the air. Assistant Chief Tripp arrived on scene and noticed one section of the house was fully engulfed in flames. Read more

LVFD Softball Wins Eight Straight

On Wednesday, July 29th the Locust Valley Fire Department Softball Team won they're 8th straight 5th Battalion Championship beating the Roslyn Rescue Fire Department 3 games to 1 in a best of 5 championship series. Read more

Good Stop at Signal 10 on Bayville Road

At approximately 6:24am on Monday, July 27th, the Locust Valley Fire Department was toned out for a Possible Fire in the Wall at 255 Bayville Road. Nassau County PD confirmed a smoke condition coming from the residence. Chief Scaperotta (5401)was first due and also confirmed smoke coming from the residence upon arrival. Chief Nolan (5402) arrived on scene next. Engine 544, under command of Lt. Steve Kelly, arrived on scene as 5402 requested a 2nd alarm for a working fire. 5401 requested a mutual aid engine from Bayville Fire Company and the F.A.S.T. team from Glen Cove Fire Department. Rescue Call - Forcible Entry Required

On July 21st at approximately 9:00am, the members of the Locust Valley Fire Department were toned out for a Rescue Call at the residence of 120 Piping Rock Road. The dispatcher also notified all LVFD units that forcible entry was required. Assistant Chief's Scaperotta (5401) and Nolan (5402) responded along with Engine 544. The call came from the homeowner stating that there were two thirteen (13) month old twins locked in a bedroom for more than an hour, and the babysitter couldn't get them out. Chief Nolan was able to force entry into the bedroom and retrieve the young toddlers. Read more

Overturned Auto on Cleft Road

On the morning of July 21st at approximately 7:23am, the Locust Valley Fire Department was toned out for a Motor Vehicle Accident with a report of an overturned vehicle at the intersection of Bayville Road and Factory Pong Road. Assistant Chief's Scaperotta (5401), Nolan (5402), and Greenfield (5403) all responded as well as Ambulance 541 and Rescue 542. When the units came upon the intersection, they could not locate the accident scene. Chief Scaperotta drove around the neighborhood and found the accident to be on Cleft Road just east of Frost Mill Road. Read more

Mutual Aid F.A.S.T. Team Responds to Glenwood Working Fire

In the early morning hours of Wednesday July 15th, the Glenwood Fire Company was toned out for an Odor of Smoke in the house at 5 Hamilton Court, off of High Farms Rd. in Glen Head. Upon arrival, Chief 5301 reported a working fire. At 4:46am the Locust Valley Fire Department was toned out for the request of a F.A.S.T. team to the fire on Hamilton Ct. Assistant Chief Nolan (5402), responded along with TL-546 under command of Capt. Akapnitis. Read more
