Busy Night for LVFD

On Monday, April 13th at approximately 8:02pm, a little over an hour after the newly elected chiefs were sworn into office, the LVFD was toned out for an Oven Fire at 10 Midway Ave. All four chiefs responded to the scene quickly from the fire house followed closely by E-544. Upon entering the kitchen of the home the engine crew found a smoke condition with smoke coming from the oven. It turns out that the homeowner had turned the oven to self-clean forgetting about the oven mitts still inside. R-542 responded in next bringing a Dry-Chem extinguisher in to knock down the small fire in the oven. TL-546 responded in, as well as E-545, who came in from LeBritton Street and picked up the closest hydrant in case of the need for water. Crews inside the kitchen were able to pry the oven door off and remove the contents, which were then brought outside and doused with water. R-542's crew also set up their portable fans to vent the smoke from the house. After the scene was secure Chief 5400 (Baker) gave all LVFD crews a signal 13.
While the trucks were backing into the firehouse, a second alarm was received and the LVFD was toned out for a Building Fire at 94 Piping Rock Road. Chief's 5400 (Baker), 5402 (Nolan), and 5403 (Greenfield) responded followed closely by E-544, R-542, TL-546, and E-545. Upon arrival the chiefs were notified by the dispatcher that the homeowner had set the alarm off by accident from cooking. E-544's crews search of the house turned out negative and Chief Baker put all units on a signal 13. All crews were back in headquarters and done for the night by 9:30pm.
