Serious Auto Accident on Forest Avenue
On Sunday, May 17th at 12:20 PM, the Locust Valley Fire Department was alerted to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Forest Avenue and South 5th Street. First arriving Deputy Chief Brian Nolan, who lives only a short distance from the scene, found a car that had crashed into a telephone pole in the westbound lane on Forest Avenue. The pole, wires and transformers were knocked down and hanging on top of the car and roadway.
Both occupants of the vehicle were pulled out of the car by nearby civilians and CPR was immediately started on the male driver who was found in cardiac arrest. After only a few minutes, the driver was revived and transported by Locust Valley Ambulance 541 to a trauma center. The female passenger was transported to Nassau University Medical Center by Nassau County Police helicopter. Chief Jeffrey Baker notified the Nassau County Hazmat Team to respond for hazardous fluids in the roadway and also requested LIPA to tend to the wires. Deputy Chief Dominick Scaperotta coordinated transport of the patients to the hospitals, while Deputy Chief Peter Greenfield directed the crews from Rescue 542 and Ladder 546 to tend to the car and fluids in the roadway and secure a landing zone at the Boys & Girls Club field for the helicopter. The Locust Valley Fire Department applauds Lynn Fricke, John Heffernan and an employee from the Pool Store for their quick actions and heroism in aiding to the victims of this accident.
