Overturn In Front of LVFD Headquarters
On Tuesday, June 9th at approximately 6:30am, the members of the LVFD were toned out for a motor vehicle accident in front of the firehouse. Firefighters responding to the firehouse found a car rolled onto it's driver's side about 15 feet up the wooded embankment wedged up against some trees. As Rescue 542 and the ambulance 541 were being pulled out, five teenagers were walking towards the firehouse after pulling themselves out of the car. Chief Baker (5400) took command of the operation and had the crew of 542 make sure that everyone from the car was accounted for and that the car was secure. The car was heading from the Locust Valley Library and slid out on the wet pavement and hit the curb which then sent the car up the embankment and for it to turn on it's side. It turns out that there were actually six (6) teenagers, all of whom were seniors from the Locust Valley High School, inside the car. Five of the six were being treated for injuries when the police and Chief Baker were notified that the driver had left the scene of the accident. Four of the five teenagers refused medical attention (RMA) and one female was transported to North Shore Glen Cove Hospital in the Nassau County Police Ambulance (14A). The scene was secured and all units were back in service at 7:15am.
