LVFD Softball Wins Eight Straight

On Wednesday, July 29th the Locust Valley Fire Department Softball Team won they're 8th straight 5th Battalion Championship beating the Roslyn Rescue Fire Department 3 games to 1 in a best of 5 championship series.
The LVFD softball team ended the regular season in 1st place which earned them a 1st round playoff bye. In the 2nd round of the playoffs LVFD faced a solid Syosset Fire Department team. Locust Valley won that series 2 game to 0 in a best of 3 game series. Locust Valley then went onto the Championship for the 8th straight year in a row, facing Roslyn Rescue, whom they had faced in the Championship the last three years.
Locust Valley, with home field advantage, won the 1st game 6-5. In Roslyn, Rescue won the second game 5-0. The third game, back in Locust Valley, was almost cancelled due to rainy conditions and Roslyn had a working garage fire at the time. The game went on and Locust Valley took the game 7-2. Game 4 was played in Roslyn with Locust Valley hoping to win the series and Roslyn hoping to extend it. Locust Valley jumped out ahead quickly with a 3 run 1st inning and then scored 2 more in the 5th. Roslyn could only squeak 1 run across the plate. Locust Valley won the game 5-1 making them the 5th Battalion Softball Champions of 2009.
Locust Valley Softball has won the 5th Battalion Softball Championship from 2002 - 2009. The team is led by Manager Chief Peter Greenfield and Assistant Manager Billy Eliseo. Congratulations to the team and good luck trying to go for 9 in a row next year!
