2nd Annual Pig Roast
On Saturday, August 29th, the Recruitment & Retention Committee held their 2nd Annual Pig Roast for the LVFD membership. The Chairman of the Recruitment & Retention Committee, Capt. Andrew Akapnitis, with assistance from FF Paul Marecki, started the day early at 9am prepping the food and getting the charcoal set for the roast.
The event kicked off under cloudy skies at 2pm, but that didn't dampen the spirits of the membership. By 3pm the pig was roasted and ready for all to enjoy.
The Locust Valley Fire Department started its Recruitment & Retention Committee under the direction of Capt. Akapnitis 2 years ago to help promote new membership and organize events to help maintain our current members involvement within the fire department. To date, Capt. Akapnitis and his committee are directly responsible for 5 new members who have joined the ranks of the LVFD. Besides the annual Pig Roast, the committee also organizes an annual ski trip, which is very popular with the membership.
A special thank you goes out to Capt. Andrew Akapnitis and FF Paul Marecki for maaking this annual event a success!
