LVFD Continues Fire Prevention Work

On Wednesday, November 4th as election results were being tallied, the Locust Valley Fire Department concluded its Fire Prevention duties by visiting the Locust Valley Church and Mill Neck Manor schools. Lieutenant Greg Smith, Ex-Captain Jim Neumeyer and Firefighter Matt Stimola brought Tower Ladder 546 to both schools to educate the children on fire safety and even gave them a bit of homework.

The homework assignment was to make sure that each child's family has an evacuation plan should a fire occur in the home. This is a very important plan that should be practiced on a regular basis. It enables the family to practice what to do in case of an emergency, how to get out of the house from all areas and to select a meeting place once outside of the house, i.e. a particular tree or a neighbors house. The children were given firefighter helmets as well as other fire prevention goodies. Additionally, they were able to see and ask questions about different equipment on the ladder truck. I would personally like to thank the residents of Locust Valley, community and county organizations and the LVFD district and membership for another wonderful fire prevention season. As a reminder, we are coming into fire season and if you have not already done so, change the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. These devices truly save lives. ---Lt. Greg Smith.
