Save The Date - June 19, 2010
On June 19th, the Locust Valley Fire Department is proud to host the Annual 5th Battalion Parade and Drill. Together with our neighboring 5th Battalion Departments, Bayville, East Norwich, Glen Cove, Glenwood, Oyster Bay Co. 1, Oyster Bay Atlantic Steamers, Roslyn Rescue, Sea Cliff, Roslyn Highlands, and Syosset, the day will begin at 10am with an old fashioned firematic drill at the firemen's arch on Elm Street (Behind the Boy's and Girl's Club). Typical firematic events include 3-man ladder, Running Hose Replacement, Efficiency Hose, and the crowd favorite Bucket Brigade, to name a few. There will be food vendors on hand along with LVFD members selling commemorative t-shirts. Come out and support the teams!
Following the drill, the evening events begin promptly at 6pm with a judged "point" parade. Kicking off at the intersection of Bayville Road and Ryefield Road (by the LV Primary School), the parade will march south along Bayville Road to Buckram Road. They will turn right and proceed west on Buckram Road (past the Locust Valley Firehouse) and through the heart of the Village where they will make a left down Weir Lane and into Thomas Park. Each fire department usually brings along marching band, so you'll be sure to hear the familiar sounds of the pipes & Drums!
Once the parade ends, the party kicks off at Thomas Park with food, refreshments, and LIVE music from Sugar Band playing your favorite cover music from 7pm - 11pm. LVFD members will also be on-hand selling commemorative
t-shirts.
So please SAVE THE DATE, Saturday, June 19th! Tell your family, friends, and neighbors. Come down to the track on Elm St and watch the teams compete during the day. Bring your family to watch the parade come through town at night. Then bring your lounge chair or dancing shoes and listen and/or dance to some great music. It will be a great summer night out!
We hope to see you there.
