LVFD Responds to Working Fire

During the early morning hours of July 10, the Locust Valley FD was alerted to wires burning across from 58 Ryefield Road in Lattingtown. While enroute to the firehouse, Ex-Captain J. Converse discovered a house completely engulfed in flames. He quickly phoned the dispatcher and instructed him to tone out a signal 10 for a working fire. DC 5403 (Nolan) instructed the dispatcher to sound the whistles indicating a signal 10 and notify Bayville for a Firefighter Assist and Search Team (FAST.)

Upon arrival of DC 5401 (Baker), DC 5402 (Scaperotta) and DC 5403 (Nolan), a quick size-up yielded that the 2 story Private Dwelling was completely engulfed in flames and had began to collapse. Chief 5400 (Vissichelli) arrived shortly thereafter and ordered first arriving engine 544 to stretch a 2 1/2 inch line to protect exposures. TL 546 set-up in front of the fire building and began master stream operations. Engine 545 then arrived and also stretched a 2 1/2 inch line. Chief 5400 requested Glen Cove FD for 1 engine to the scene. Other responding LVFD units were Engine 543 (Supply TL 546), HR 542 and Ambulance 541.

A converted apartment was discovered inside the garage (also on fire.) Crews from LVFD, Bayville and Glen Cove searched the structure and discovered that no one was inside.

The Nassau County Fire Marshals Office in conducting an investigation of the cause of the blaze.
