LVFD responds to Car on the Tracks

On the evening of December 2, the evening after our first snowfall, the Locust Valley Fire Department Dispatcher received a direct call from a resident reporting a car on the Long Island Railroad tracks. Upon arrival of Chief Vissichelli (5400) and DC Nolan (5403) a car was found trapped on the railroad tracks on Kaintuck Lane near Beaver Dam Winter Sports Club. Immediately, Chief Vissichelli issued a stop order on East and West bound traffic on the tracks. DC Nolan spoke to the driver of the automobile, Rita Ingrasa of Glen Cove, to ascertain if she had any injuries. Crews from LVFD placed flares on the tracks and used a winch to safely remove the car from the dangerous situation. "This could have been a horrible accident" stated Chief Vissichelli. "Because of the direct phone call from a member of the community and the quick response of our dedicated membership a tradegy was avoided", added Chief Vissichelli. For fire or medical emergencies, don't forget to call our hotline at 671-2600.
